Protoceratops

Protoceratops (name meaning "first-horned face") is a genus of ceratopsian dinosaur that lived in Asia during the Late Cretaceous period. Two species of Protoceratops are known; P. andrewsi and P. hellenikorhinus, with the latter being featured in the third episode of Dinosaur Revolution.

Physical Characteristics[]

It measures 9 feet long, weighed up to 400 pounds and had a bony crest to protect his neck. Unlike other ceratopsians, it was small with a very big head and didn't have long horns, still possessed a sharp pointed beak and used for eating and to protect it from predators like Velociraptor. Also had a small horn that should not have function.

Its sharp beak was helpful to crush seeds, branches and stiff leaves.

The Protoceratops were very tender and protective with their own babies. In Dinosaur Revolution is shown that an old male protects a young from a group of Velociraptors.

Survival Tactics[]

The Protoceratops appears in the third episode (Survival Tactics) where a little Protoceratops and it's parents where attacked by a pack of Velociraptor, the Velociraptors manage to kill the parents. But before they could kill the youngster, an old lone bull Protoceratops shows up and chases them away, the little one follows him and for the next few days the old bull becomes his guardian, protecting him and helping him eat. One day, the two Protoceratops were roaming again, the two Velociraptors from before tried to land a surprise attack, but were chased away by sudden footsteps of a Protoceratops herd. The youngster joins the herd and becomes one of them but the old bull leaves as the youngster watches him, the bull later arrives at a Protoceratops graveyard where he plans to let himself live in.
